In this field data is collected on the prevalence and incidence of infectious diseases — first of all HIV, hepatitis C and hepatitis B — among injecting drug users (IDUs). Besides that, injecting drug use-related risk behaviours and protective factors are also surveyed. Collecting data on other infectious diseases – such as TB, STIs – among drug users is also an aim of the field.
Data collection is carried out according to the EMCDDA’s guidance in order to have reliable and comparable data at EU level.
National data on drug-related infectious diseases is published in Chapter 6 of our National Report. Information received from member states is presented by the EMCDDA in the Annual Report, in publications concentrating on particular issues related to DRID, and in the Statistical Bulletin.
